Director – Virology (m/f/d) (40h/week)

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Director with a strong background in virology, vaccine development, and experience in bioinformatics (e.g. with Next Generation Sequencing) to lead the Virological Assay Development team. The focus of the Virological Assay Development team is to develop and perform assays that support viral vector and product characterization in research and development. The Director develops, directs, and implements HOOKIPA’S R&D strategy for novel, state-of-the-art virological assays.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead the Virological Assay Development team with 4 experienced lab technicians
  • Collaborate with internal and external research teams or CROs to further advance virological assays that contribute to product characterization and research at HOOKIPA (such as set up of direct RNA sequencing methods)
  • Develop a strategy for set up and exploration of state-of-the-art virological assays to increase the vector platform understanding and to support product development
  • Collaborate closely with Virology Research, Analytical Assay Development & CMC team to identify needs for analytical methods
  • Analyze data, troubleshoot issues and report results to senior management
  • Participate and represent the research in project core teams and sub teams
  • Continuous evaluation of novel molecular biological technologies for vector and product characterization
  • Provide guidance and supervision to the team members and contribute to their personal development at HOOKIPA

Qualifications

  • MD or PhD in relevant field (e.g., virology, cell biology or immunology)
  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience with molecular biological methods and specifically Next-Generation Sequencing, RNA sequencing and gene expression analyses
  • Experience with multicolor flow cytometry and immunological assays are a plus
  • Basic bioinformatic knowledge
  • Experience with assay development, qualification and transfer under consideration of CMC aspects is of advantage
  • Managerial and leadership experience ideally in a bio-pharmaceutical company
  • Scientific knowledge of virology and cell biology, cancer immunotherapy and T cell biology
  • Independent, efficient, and proactive workstyle
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, hands-on mentality, and solution-oriented
  • Motivated, flexible, and respectful team player with the ability to work under time pressure
  • Fluent in English

We are required by Austrian law to post a minimum salary. The minimum monthly gross salary for this position is EUR 5.438, - based on fulltime (40 hours per week); depending on experience and qualification salary can be negotiated. In addition, we offer a performance-related bonus payment and participation in our stock option compensation program.
