Lab Technician – Preclinical & Translational Research

Position Summary

We seek an experienced, highly motivated Lab Technician to join a newly formed team in the Preclinical & Translational Research Department focusing on assay development with human and murine samples. You will work in a team on establishing immunological assays to further understand the mechanism of action in anti-tumor immunity. In addition, you will contribute to characterizing candidate therapies in pre-clinical models and support in moving lead candidates into clinical development. This position covers both in vitro and in vivo techniques involving work in the laboratory and animal facility.

Main Responsibilities
  • Cell culture of primary cells and cell lines
  • Isolation of primary immune cells from human blood and murine blood/organs
  • Perform immunological assays, which mainly include multi-color flow cytometry, cytokine analysis, cell sorting (FACS, MACS)
  • Optimize and set-up of novel experimental approaches
  • Support in vivo studies e.g. tumor growth monitoring
  • Independent planning, execution and analysis of experiments
  • Perform experiments with infectious material under BSL-2 conditions
  • Follow documentation, sample and data management and documentation in accordance with Hookipa guidelines and support maintenance of lab equipment
  • Ability to work on a weekend and statutory holiday, if necessary


  • MTA, BTA or B.Sc, MSc. or equivalent experience in relevant field (e.g. Immunology, Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology)
  • Hands-on lab experience with cell culture and (multi-color) flow cytometry is a must
  • Good understanding of immunological and immune-oncological concepts
  • Experiences in immunoassays are a plus
  • Willingness to learn mouse handling
  • Independent, efficient, well organized, solution- and detail-oriented, hands-on mentality
  • Motivated, flexible team player with the ability to handle multiple tasks in parallel and deliver high quality results under tight timelines
  • MS Office and data analysis skills (GraphPad Prism, FlowJo)
  • Eager to acquire new knowledge, to learn, develop and optimize novel techniques preclinical and translational development
  • Excellent communication skills in English; German is a plus

We are required by Austrian law to post a minimum salary. The minimum monthly gross salary for this position is 2.754,- based on fulltime (40 hours per week). However, depending on your qualification and work-related experience salary can be negotiated. In addition, we offer a performance-related bonus payment and participation in our stock option compensation program.
