Position Summary

The Purchasing Manager is responsible to provide efficient, timely, and effective procurement services for all laboratory needs of our Vienna R&D operations. He/she will be executing purchase orders for goods, services, and supplies, and be responsible for vendor selection, negotiation and contracting as well as for the efficient organization of the internal processes from purchase request to goods receipt and storage, including the respective ERP functionalities.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute on purchasing strategies to optimize spending and reduce supply risks
  • Execute purchase orders for goods, services, and supplies
  • Obtain offers and performance of proposal analysis
  • Supplier selection, price negotiation and negotiation of other terms and standard supply agreements
  • Follow up on purchase orders through to delivery, including goods receipt and storage management (using resources of a lab support team)
  • Manage supplier performance issues, damages and complaints
  • Ensure proper inventory levels and timeliness of deliveries (Inventory Management)
  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure supply continuity (including qualification of alternative sources and other relevant strategies to optimize the supply base)
  • Develop cost saving strategies and driving of efficiencies
  • Improve procedures and systems (SAP ByD) in all aspects of procurement- and materials management
  • Support implementation of policies and practices for the purchase process
  • Measure quality of procurement performance through metrics and feedback from internal customer groups
  • Observe and support quality and internal control systems (SOX) to secure compliance with code of ethics as well as stock markets and pharmaceutical products regulations
  • Monitor and forecast changes in demand in close collaboration with R&D to reduce lead times and operational risks

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years professional experience in acquiring, bidding, or sourcing goods and services in the context of a scientific lab, or pharmaceutical development or production environment
  • Experience negotiating pricing, terms and conditions
  • Computer experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ERP software
  • Experience reading and understanding contractual terms and conditions.
  • Technically interested, ideally with an understanding of laboratory supplies and equipment
  • Experience in working in global, intercultural environment
  • Service mentality with “gate keeper” skills
  • Excellent German and English language skills, written and spoken

We are required by Austrian law to post a minimum salary. The minimum monthly gross salary for this position is EUR 3.857,-- based on fulltime (40 hours per week); depending on experience and qualification salary can be negotiated. In addition, we offer a performance-related bonus payment and participation in our stock option compensation program.
