(Senior) Scientist – Preclinical Research and Development (m/f)

Position Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated (Senior) Scientist with a strong background in immunology, T cell biology and cancer immunotherapy. The main task of the Preclinical R&D Department is to develop novel therapeutics against chronic virus infections and cancer. With a strong focus on cancer immunotherapy, this position aims at characterizing the immunogenicity and efficacy of candidate therapies in a range of preclinical tumor models. This position involves working in the laboratory and the animal facility.

Main Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with internal and external research teams to advance preclinical research capabilities at HOOKIPA
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct mouse tumor studies including assessment of the therapeutic effect of candidate therapies
  • Perform in vitro and ex vivo assays to characterize immune cells and specifically the tumor microenvironment
  • Support and perform immunological techniques including multicolor flow cytometry, ELISA, ELISpot, cytokine assay and other immunoassays
  • Interpretation and presentation of study results
  • Active participation in project teams
  • Working with a team of lab technicians


  • PhD in Immunology or in another relevant field
  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience with cell culture, multicolor flow cytometry, immunological assays, and mouse tumor models
  • Very good knowledge of T cell immunology and cancer immunotherapy
  • Independent, efficient, and proactive workstyle with a scientific mindset
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, hands-on mentality, and solution-oriented
  • Motivated, flexible, team player with the ability to work under time pressure
  • Eager to learn and develop new techniques
  • Able to adapt to different team dynamics
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written

We are required by Austrian law to post a minimum salary. The minimum monthly gross salary from EUR 3.857,- (Scientist) to EUR 4.629,- (Senior Scientist) based on fulltime (40 hours per week); depending on experience and qualification salary can be negotiated. In addition, we offer a performance-related bonus payment and participation in our stock option compensation program.
